Newt ID

Postby Jürgen Gebhart » Wed Aug 15, 2012 5:48 pm

The past Days I was checking some of my old picture CD and I found pics of this Newt.
When I made the pic (20.06.2009) I thought it is a nice black Ichthyosaura alpestris.
But a few weeks ago I heard that Triturus cristatus also occur in my area, not in a high dense, but it occur.
So I have some doubts about this one, is it possible that is a cristatus?
Please give the ignorant Vipera boy some help!

Sorry, no better pics and no belly pics!

Jürgen, this is an Ichtyosaura male ;)
You may see the typical dark7light bands on the "tail-crest" a bit.
Surely more pronounced during breeding season, when the crest is more visible, also on the back.

It's a female Ichthyosaura, not a male. :D A really nice, big girl.
