Mysterious bulgarian lizard

Postby clovis voyageur » Fri Nov 21, 2014 7:15 pm

Hi,

Here is another reptile that gives me some difficulty:

My hesitation i mainly between P taurica, P erhardii, P muralis and more or less D praticola (absolutely not convinced by this last one)
I'd bet few kopek on P erhardii, but really no certitude thought.

I couldn't catch it, so i don't have belly, for that i can see, there is no coloration on it.
What would you say?

Found in Melnik, in southwest Bulgaria, in Macedonian region. The area is really really nice to look at, with the "pyramids" of Melnik :D
None of the specimen seen where green or had any green, they weren't really large, about size of a basic/large P muralis
Into a wild area, the place was a dried river, with a arborescente vegetation, but still lot of sun.

agree ;)
When the photo has been taken?
Podarcis t. tauricus turns brown in summer/autumn, but the snout is to much pointed for tauricus. That one has a more stout snout, although the markings on the back would fit.

Yeah, definitelly erhardii. Very clean back without a dorsal line, so no muralis, as Mario pointed the head shape and also the overall build is different from tauricus and the location also confirms erhardii.
