Psammodromus algirus?!

Postby Andreas Thorbeck » Wed Oct 07, 2009 11:54 am

Hi everyone!
I`m not 100% sure but these animals should be Psammodromus algirus, aren`t they?
Could you please give me some feedback.

I took the pics in Portugal (Algarve).

Thanks for your response!

Andreas

Yes, I'm pretty sure the lizards are Psammodromus algirus.
P. hispanicus has usually spotted hind-legs (sometimes algirus too, but almost invisible, like on the first photo) and dark spots on the back.
P. algirus reaches a length of 25-30cm, P. hispanicus 13-15cm.
Both have large, keeled backscales (not really visible on the first photo, but very well on the second).

I like the pics, beautiful animals!! :D

Wow, I`m impressed - that were two quick answers! :o
Thanks Jürgen & thank you Attila for explaining the differences between the two species. :)
