Spanish lizards

Postby Kevin Byrnes » Mon Feb 29, 2016 12:04 am

During a recent trip to Northern Spain I took some photos of a lizard sitting on the edge of the path in the Picos de europas at 1800m. Looking back through my pictures, I feel unsure of what I photographed.

While we are on the topic, what would be the correct title for this one photographed north of Murcia?

I think Podarcis muralis and Podarcis hispanicus. Or is the 1st an Iberolacerta? Peter? Second is fairly easily recognisable by bifurcated vertebral line (anterior part).

Thanks very much, not sure how I managed to post the same picture twice,I meant to post this one.

This was photographed at Fuente de and I originally thought it was a muralis but then saw that it resembled a lizard from a trip report and that one was an hispanicus type 1.
I had already thought the second lizard (Murcia) was hispanicus but was unsure of where it fell in the complex.

Looks like muralis, too. Female P. guadarramae have a dark line above pale dorsolateral stripe.
