Fruit parcel Podarcis - Identification??

Postby Lukas Rosén » Fri Apr 14, 2017 11:14 pm

Hello!
Last year I recieved a gravid Podarcis female, which had arrived at a local grocery store in a fruit parcel. I got told it was a P. siculus but have since then done more and more research and currently undecided whether it is a Podarcis muralis nigreventis or Podarcis muralis maculiventris from northern Italy or even further north (Germany??)
The female laid 8 eggs with me, and me and a friend still have her and the young in indoor vivariums.

There is little to non patterning on their stomach.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately the origin of the parcel is unkown.

Hi Lukas,

you are right. Those picture show Podarcis muralis nigriventris.

Hi Lukas,
100% no muralis.. for me it is most probably Podarcis siculus.

Podarcis siculus - no chance? But it looks just like one... I mean, the adult one. Pardon my ignorance.

If you look at the laterals it very seems like one...
P. muralis nigriventris? No, just no... to little black in the animals.
If it is possibile I like to see some images of the laterals.. maybe I am wrong,
but for me it is siculus.

Wouldn't it help to know where the fruit parcel came from?

Maybe it would (but not much - see below), but Lukas was quite clear about that:
Unfortunately the origin of the parcel is unkown.

Notwithstanding that, it would NOT be of much help, when it comes to P. siculus - with its so firmly
established colonies around the globe. A parcel from Zagreb (continental Croatia) or New York (USA)
or Switzerland...
