Lizard ID

Postby Clive Brignull » Mon Oct 22, 2018 11:20 pm

Wall lizards species are hard enough to identify as adult let alone when small juveniles so hopefully range may help. Both found in Catalonia . 1st photo from the centre of Parc natural de Sant Llorenc del Munt i Obag. 2nd photo from further north at Guilleries Savassona NP. P.liolepis or P.muralis. Weather was cold and dull and both found under rocks. No adults seen. Bad light, wet and tired = poor quality photo's

Liolepis, I'm guessing.

I did presume that the first lizard photo may be P. Liolepis as i cannot find any record of P.muralis being found at that location, only P.hispanicus which is now reclassified as P.liolepis. As for colour the tiny lizard had an almost bluish green hue with many small pale dots as can be seen in photo.

Yes, both are liolepis. I was seeing many of them on regular basis around Barcelona and they do come in a wide variety of patterns but are all liolepis.
