Pelophylax question

Postby Vlad Cioflec » Mon Apr 26, 2010 8:25 am

Hi,

I need your help wit this one. ;)

So i discovered this picture among my many shots of Marsh Frogs. It was taken in a reserve where i` ve found both P. lessonae and P. ridibundus, so i`m asking - is it just another Marsh Frog, or is it an Edible Frog ?! :?:

It looks like esculentus to me - but you don't mention that species - is it not in the area?
Kind regards

Well, he does mention esculentus.

That's what he asks whether it is ;)

I agree it looks a lot like esculentus but I don't dare to presume I can provide a positive ID of Pelophylax on that basis :|

Thats because you'r a chicken Kristian ;)

I will try to find the latest issue of Zeitschrift für Feldherpetologie later - in this issue an interesting article describes what to look for when distinguishing ridibundus, esculentus and lessonae from each other on morphological characters - if i don't remember wrong, this animal shows many of the characteristics typical for esculentus.
Kind regards
