This time should be the good option.

Extreme N. Thailand (Chiang Rai) in April. Mostly to visit my son and family and celebrate Songkran (New Year), but hoping for a bit of snaking as well. Last year I visited in january and it was a bit too chilly, only found Lycodon laoensis and Xenopeltis unicolor. My son has found some abandoned houses down by the river which sound very herpy......

Croatia again!
I love this Country and it's nature!

This time 2 weeks (April 15th till 29th) and the focus will be on the vipers of Croatia!
But like always all herps, spiders an centipedes will also get attention and a photoshooting! ;)

And also this time I'll enjoy the wonderful landscapes!

I hope this time the V.u.macrops will be pleasant and show up.. 8-)

2 times to Krk's neighbour - Cres/Losinj island.
April, 14th till 18th and May, 25th to 29th.

Don't ask me what I'm doing on a viper less island - it was not my decision
But, when I will be there, I might rebuke Gaudentius for banning the vipers from the island

Mario, don't be so unfair to Saint Gaudentius. He did not "ban the vipers from the island"
- real saints are modest people. He just humbly asked God to solve HIS particular problem
with vipers troubling him in HIS cave and its environs. But God seems to prefer acting in
"broad moves", so He (or She? or It?) banned them from the whole Cres-Lošinj archipelago.
That was clearly a vast overkill (a genuinely divine one!), in view of the quite personal
petty problem that (the then just ex-bishop, not yet a saint!) Gaudentius had been facing
in his (political - what else?) exile from his seat in Osor.
Just remember what He did on a much bigger island, the Ireland - NO SNAKES AT ALL.
In this case, it was St. Patrick's doing - with abundant help from above, no doubt. Well,
if anything, THAT was an evident overkill! Even the harmless grass snakes, which would
never even try to bite anybody, all of them gone... Even in Sodom and Gomorrah God
showed more concern for the innocent ones...

Never mind vipers, maybe you'll chance to come across a really big malpolon to give you
a really hearty bite... That counts as a memorable souvenire as well.

I was bitten by a Grass snake one time, a few years ago.
And (around hundred years ago) the first Grass snake I ever saw in the wild (I was eight) was caught by friend of mine (he was ten) and the Grass snake bit him also.
What an experience, the first grass snake was a nasty Bastard.

Are you damn sure that your friend didn't do something clumsy/stupid/or whatever like that, to have
finally provoked the poor snake to bite him, after all? (At 10 years old it wouldn't be so much surprising...)
Which, of course, does not explain why just "a few years ago" ("around hundred years later") you were
bitten by a grass snake... At that age, and with that experience of yours...?! Just asking...
