He described several European amphibian species.

Discoglossus montalentii - in 1984 (he also authored D. galganoi a year later, but not as the first author)

He also named three cave salamander species, a group he studied intensively.

Speleomantes ambrosii - in 1955

Speleomantes supramontis - in 1986

Speleomantes sarrabusensis - in 2001

And of course, a salamander (one of my favourites!) was named after him in 1988, as most of you will know.
