summer tailed amphibian herping

Postby Michal Szkudlarek » Thu Aug 04, 2016 8:27 pm

I have a lot of free time in August and September and my favourite group of herptiles are tailed amphibians. Where can I find them (let's say at least 3 new species to me) during these two months? Only Italy as far as nearer herpspots are concerned?

That's a poor season for many species and areas. To answer where you could find lifers, we would need to know what you've seen so far, obviously.

viewtopic.php?f=29&t=944#p715to4 this list needs to be updated but I think that Caudata list is accurate

Liguria or Sardinia seem the obvious choices.

And of course, Salamandra lanzai is (very) doable in that part of the year.

Depending on altitude, I would say "yes", but there are people on here who should have more experience with this species than me.

Hi Michal, don´t know if it helps, but two weeks back there were a lot of S. atra in Julian alps in Slovenia. After rain shower and early morning we saw hundreds of them in altitude around 2000 masl. Cheers, T.
