Herping equipment/hand luggage

Hi All, Travelling light (eg hand luggage only) by Ryanair on monday .Has any one had problems with herping equipment, nets, tongs, hooks etc as hand luggage ?

Many years ago I took with me a long metal clothes hanger I used as snake hook in the Philippines.
I do not remember the company but it was probably Philippines airlines.
I wanted to carry this object with me as hand luggage, but it was not possible and I had to send it separately. It was however a very long metal shaft, potentially dangerous and impossible to be contained in a normal luggage: I don't know how would it had gone with a short metal hook or tong...
