Atlas of Croatian Herpetofauna - call for records

Postby Mladen Zadravec » Mon Jan 08, 2018 12:22 pm

Hello everyone,
I'd like to forward to you a message from Association Hyla. We are again in need of your assistance! :D

The message:
Dear enthusiasts for amphibians and reptiles!

Association Hyla is proud to announce the start of creating the Atlas of amphibians and reptiles of Croatia!
For the past 20 years, our hardworking employees, members and friends have been intensively gathering distributional records of our herpetofauna. Now is the time to present all that we have learned about them in this period. In our database we have tens of thousands of records, either from literature or recent inventories. However, despite this, there are still gaps in the knowledge of the distribution for some species, both common and rare ones.
For this reason, we invite all who want to share their data to help us fill in the blanks! Every record is important, every lizard you might have seen scampering about the camp during your vacation on the Adriatic coast, every snake you saw dead on road, every turtle you saw munching on someone’s flower garden and every frog that jumped across your path in the forest… there is no such thing as too much records!
You can share your findings by filling in the attached table if you have a significant amount of records, or if you have only a few observations, just share them with us by e-mail. The most important information for us to know for every record is the name of the species, location (feel free to be detailed in your description and list toponyms in order from broader to more detailed), the date, observer and coordinates (preferably in WGS84 decimal degrees, with at least six decimal places; if using a different geographic coordinate system, please specify exactly which one you used). Please send your records to our e-mail address: The deadline for the submission of your records is 15 February 2018!
We would like to sincerely thank all of you who want to participate in the creation of our Atlas! All contributors will be listed by their full names in the acknowledgements within the Atlas.

Kindest regards,
Hyla team

Update: So far the responses from people, including the general public, have been positive and we received some interesting records. There is still some time to send more.
