What is proper field herping conduct?

The place to talk about fieldtechnics, the stuff you use in the field and everything else

Fenced ground clearly says "private place"

I've done that many times, even if the gate was closed. But only in my homeland, where I really
don't expect being shot at for trespassing, and can talk to the owner if he/she happens to appear.
Only once I was "arrested" for trespassing a private farm, by the owner himself. I told my two
French-speaking fieldherping comrades to just keep quiet, follow the owner's car and leave the
"negotiations" to me. The end result: we were offered drinks and had a nice friendly chat with
the owner. We exchanged phone numbers, so next time we would be treated as welcome guests,
not trespassers. Provided we announce ourselves, as polite people certainly should, of course.
(We were obviously guilty, having ignored the checkpoint hut at the entrance, just driving by like
mad. Who cares... Well, the owner cared... And he's a really nice guy indeed, so we had luck.)

Only in the bloody capitalism, or whatever you might call it... In some other socioeconomic systems,
"fenced" just means "fenced"... for whatever reasons. Maybe just for preventing cattle to devastate
the planted crops - private or not. Airports and highways are fenced for the analogous reason - to
prevent big animals reaching them - in any system, yet they are not "private places".

I have yet another question.
Do you cross road gates? I do.

Me too, provided it's technically feasible.
Next question? Do I enter mine suspected areas?
No, I don't - provided I'm aware of the fact.
