A few pictures as introduction

Postby Ruggero M. » Thu May 15, 2014 7:14 pm

I'm a medicine doctor from Italy: since my childhood I was interested in nature, animals and mainly in snakes.
My English is not perfect, but I also know very well Italian and rather good German: I've studied in fact as a dermatologist in Mainz.
I'm not a good or “professional” photographer: I use a small compact camera, and of the most interesting findings I've made in my life (a huge reddish N.natrix, two specimens of 100% melanistic N.tessellata found in Italy, a full back-keeled scaled Z.longissimus, a light grey- almost white V.aspis male)... sorry I've no picture at all!
My favorite European species are Z.longissimus and Z.situla.

Hello Ruggero,
Your pictures looks fine.
The Z. longissimus are a dream.
That's also my favorites.

Thanks Manni! :-)

Of the two males one was straw-yellow with 4 darker lines, and really wonderful.

Hello,
have you more pictures from the Z. longissimus with the stripes/lines?
I am curious. :D

Of these two males, I've asked friends about other pictures they have taken. The only ones I find are very similar each other.

But I've found a picture of another male, taken in situ in the wood: also this specimen is "yellow" with faint stripes.

I'm happy you are interested about striped longissimus: I've seen in Italy some yellow/striped specimens, very similar to the american chicken snake "quadrivittata".
No pictures: sorry! I've seen also olive-green specimens, rather "similar" to green H.viridiflavus, but also of those stunning specimens I've no pictures.
Of an italian melanistic male I've some pictures, but only on slides.

Same faint striped specimen of the previous "in situ" picture (here is the release): not stunning neither very particular, but anyway a beautiful specimen.

I've found on the web a picture that my friends took (at their home) at the two "combating" males: the snakes were shown to their children, for educational purposes, and then released. You can notice here very well their different ground colour (even if the camera and the picture itself are not so good).

I've found, surfing on the web, a couple of interesting pictures of mine: they are old slides of my collection.
The first specimen is a male Aesculapian found in the 80's in August, on a hill road, during light rain. Beautiful golden yellow striped specimen!
The second specimen (sorry for my logo "Zoroaster", used for another Forum!) is a melanistic male found in Mai not far from a stream.
Both specimen are from Italy (Pavia province).

The third specimen is a normal coloured, very big Asculapian, found near Pavia town.

Same specimen (a pink, if I remember well the colour, roundish spot is present on the head/neck region: but it's impossible to notice it from the slide)
