Mario from Koblenz

Hello,

my name is Mario, I'm originally from the Northern Eifel area in North Rhine-Westphalia and I've been living and studying Ecological Impact Assessment in Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate, for two years. My interest in reptiles and amphibians already evolved in my early teens and became very intense during the last few years. Like many other members in the fieldherping community I'm also a hobby photographer and spend a lot of time photographing local and not-so-local herps.
I'm looking forward to sharing interesting findings and photos with you! :)

Kind regards,
Mario

Welcome Mario,
I think you are in the right forum. I joined some time ago for the same reasons you mentioned.
You have some very nice areas close to Koblenz I'm sure you have seen many herps around there.

Miguel

Thank you for the nice welcome!

Koblenz and its surroundings are indeed a nice location for herping. In fact, there are a lot of pictures I'd like to show. So, here is a rough impression of some interesting herps you can find really close to Koblenz:

Triturus cristatus is quite common on a local former military training ground.

A population of Bombina variegata also occurs in this area ...

... as well as Hyla arborea.

Bufotes viridis and ...

... Epidalea calamita share some habitats in Rhine valley - there are even locations they occur with Bufo bufo syntopically!

A very pretty Coronella austriaca gets a bit moody.

Like the always present Podarcis muralis, they inhabit nearly every vineyard in Moselle valley.

Natrix tesselata reaches its Northern distribution limits in Rhineland-Palatinate. The smallest population is located not far from Koblenz in a protected area. Therefore, this picture was taken at Nahe river where Natrix tesselata can be easily observed.

Welcome, Mario. Very nice pictures (and not to forget the bilineata populations near Koblenz ;-))
