Some catching up

November has been really slow for me, with just one flipped Tree Frog, a few Marsh Frogs, Red-bellied Toads and no lifers.
But since the beginning of winter birding has picked quite nicely.
On December 1st i organized a raptor tour. Many nice species were seen, but since it was cold i snapped just these shots:

Told you! :)

On the 4th i got lucky with a bird that was not just a much needed lifer, it`s also a red code rarity in Romania!

Trophy shot. You know, ... for the haters :)

Thanks for reading and good birding!

Vlad,

Great to see some winter owls... I am intrigued as to which bird was your lifer and on the red list? If it was the Kittiwake, it looks..er a bit passed its sell by date! I know birders are twitchers of particularly low morales but surly you cant tick a dead bird? If we are ticking dead stuff my Israel tick list would probably double :D :D

Glad to hear you guys dig winter birding as well!

I work in a field where we kind of count dead bodies (work related accidents) and since I do count and post DOR herps, i see no problem with counting this lifer Kittiwake. I mean i found it, determined it and took photos that were submitted (and from what i`ve heard accepted) to the Rarities Comitee.
So congratulations for your big Israel list. ;)

Turns out i still have some photos from the last past month or so that are a tad more pleasing to the eye than dead gulls. ;)

Nice photos Vlad! its always nice to see some owls, we have largest winter colony of A. otus in the world in Kikinda, near Romania. Colony is almost 800 birds, on 100 square meters, its amazing.

Regarding lady bugs, its Harmonia axyridis highly invasive species, kill it please (if i can say this here :P ), this lady bugs bite people also in autumn , believe it or not :D I felt it on my own skin ;)

Don't be too happy about the ladybugs - they're an alien invasive (Harmonia axyridis). I was with one of the first to record it in 2001.

Anyone can twitch as he/she pleases, no? It's a silly game anyway. US herpers only count what they find individually, which I've always found to be nonsense (to put it mildly). In fact, I used to twitch dead species too, but don't anymore. You have to draw a line somewhere, if not you can twitch a species by finding a shed, a hair/scale, faeces, bite marks, ...
