... and based on what I can see of its mother I'm fairly certain the ugly duckling is Cairina moschata

Yeah, I also think that it is Anthus berthelotii. I took pictures of that species last year on Fuerteventura and send them to a friend for ID.

Definitely Berthelot's Pipit.
Not sure the Parakeet is Krameri though, both sexes show the ring on the neck from memory. I will check book.
