Ever since i took my first look over the european field guides for spiders and butterflies i knew what were my favourite species of the entire continent, and i further more i knew i did not have them on my list. And so the search begun for the nicest spider and the prettiest butterfly.
Years have passed, my list grew, but the best looking ones were nowhere to be found...
Today, the herps were pretty common, but the inverts were far from it!

And now for the really cool stuff that really made my day.
First, the beautiful Crab Spider:

Then the endangered Southern Festoon:


So two sweet lifers in one day sure makes up for the lack of snakes!

Geography and species are weird You are excited about crab spiders and I have them in my garden ,you were not thrilled by sand lizards and I spent all Saturday looking for them without success

Nice iris, and totally mad, and a bit sinister beetle
