Hi all,

I wanted to share some pictures of the damselflies and the dragonflies I photographed. Damsel en dragonflies have gained my interest this summer, so I am new to this group. Here are some pictures.

The very rare Coenagrion armatum We drove from the Netherlands to the border of Germany and Denmark for this specie  With a special target to see this specie and photograph their larvae. My companions on that day are writing a book about the larvae and exuviae of the damsel and dragonflies. There where till that moment no available photographs of the larvae of this rare damselfly, and they needed it for their book so we went out to find, catch and photograph this larvae.

The photo-setup for the larvae that was about 2,5 cm

Sjuul,

Great to see another person with such a big interest in Odonata...I have seen all the UK species bar somatochlora arctica, and I am steadily plowing my way through the European stuff.. its been a good year in the UK for new species with Coenagrion scitulum, lestes viridis, lestes barbarus, anax parthenope and aeshna affinis all breeding..

Its rare for me to get a new UK tick, this year I had two :D

If you are visiting the UK during the flight season let me know and I can give you some sites or meet up..

I have just returned from a few days in Europe and was lucky enough to see sympetrum depressiusculum and aeshna viridis, I dipped on my other targets due to the weather( sympetrum pedemontanum and crocothemis erythraea)

I would say coenagrion armatum is uncommon rather than rare.. I myself have seen it in Finland... coenagrion hylus..now thats rare..

A few pics ...

Thanks for your reply Paul!

My interest in Odonata started this fly season, so I'm pretty new to this al  Only 2 ticks? I did an inventory on a graveyard and I was full! 8 ticks on a single day!

You have found some nice elegans! When I ever decide to cross the canal I will think to your offer ;)
