I'm with Paul on this one! Nonetheless, a very nice collection of reptilians and some really cool toads! The Heloderma would have been the highlight for me as well. Well done mate, and I would shave....

Nikals, yes original, unphotoshopped(other than cropped)..

Matthijis,

I agree that its very frustrating, stuck at work, rain pissing down, too cold for herping... and that the US is a top place to Herp.. I mean is there anything prietter than sistrurus milliarus barbouri or crotalus viridis.. but Im just saying that European snakes are far from boring..

I bet most US field herpers would be stoked to see ammodytes :D

Barbouri are definitely not the prettiest pygs ;) These are definitely better.

Still not the prettiest though. A Europe vs US debate is stupid, but a Netherlands vs US debate is very obvious... :D

Stunning! Streckeri? Top pic.. :D

At least in Holland you have more species than the UK :D

Streckeri indeed. Give me TX/AZ/basically anywhere in the US over the Netherlands any day. The only redeeming feature of this country, IMO, is Salamandra, and those are disappearing faster than Jeroen's killer vacation did. ;)

Thank you all for your kind responses!

I guess we love what we know? ;)
Somehow, I find it rather easy to get crazy about any herping target I set myself, regardless of its home. Xenophobia is silly, right?
If I would find berus still (and this last word is crucial) as exciting as a mnt king or a sidewinder, I would not fly all across the Atlantic ;)
Of course, I still hold a warm heart for Euroherping.

One thing I love as part of herping and which is not really as productive in Europe is nocturnal cruising.
Bad for the environment, but sooo much excitement...

Gila rules!!! Cool nights made it take a while before we saw one, but what a treat......

I will, I will... Looks are for teenagers, though
BTW, this outlook is what happened after going into MacDo for the first time in over 20 years ;)

As usual, I had a map in there at first, but some US sensitivities (which I won't argue with) made me remove it.

Though not that rare, I also loooooooooove molossus!!! We saw 1 gila that was found a couple of minutes before us by other herpers on the same road, then we found another one ourselves on another road, and than a DOR :( on yet another road. We mainly were active in SE AZ.

A word of advice - you shouldn't act like one when border patrol is near ;)

Hey man! It´s incredible. AZ roads are the real heaven, more herps in 1 road there than in all the mediterranean countries together. 2 gila monsters and a lot of crotalus and other snakes. Amazing. Congrats Jeroen!!!
