Tioman (Malaysia): big monitor lizards and... small retics!

For your reports/images, made outside Europe and the "Mediterranean" countries. Not to be too narrow minded and limited to our European/Mediterranean herps.

Tioman (Malaysia): big monitor lizards and... small retics!

Postby Ruggero M. » Fri Jun 20, 2014 11:15 am

Tioman is a very pristine island, not easy to explore without a 4x4 vehicle or a small boat: there is only a very steep road which connects Tekek (the main town, with airport and a wonderful resort) and Juara.

I don't like monitor lizards so much, but on this island you MUST meet them, and so I've taken many pictures of them.
You can see many monitor lizards, in Tekek, near the building where the workers of the big luxurious resort live.

Many monitor lizards were to find in a garbage dump in Juara

Two interesting videos from Tioman found on youtube:

A big Zaocys carinatus (not a king cobra!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDww5-DTz0I

A true (male) king cobra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHGWQs3eR40
