Hello you all, last summer I spend 3 weeks of quality time in Costa Rica with my family.

We stayed at several places all over the country.

I'm very, very, VERY jealous, man! I had been looking forward to this report ever since I saw that tiny frog pic on your home page, and of course, I am not disappointed. Fantastic trip, even compared with practically all other reports I remember from this fairly intensively herped country. I am starting now to negotiate such a family trip myself ;). Will have to wait until the kids get just a bit older, though. Ir's also cool to see some relatives of species I know from Peru or the US (didn't know there was Trimorphodon in CR at all...). That's also a very decent number of snake species. And then there's Cruziohyla..... And Siphlophis...! And glass frogs....!

The amount of amphibian diversity is mindboggling...

Fantastic report and photos and great story-telling! Enjoyed it very much.

The frogs, the snakes, the sheer diversity...

For a herping trip this would be spectacular, for a family vacation it is just mind blowing

Jeroen
Thanks! CR is a good country to travel around with kids, as long as you get the kids into the art of herping it will only be better, I had my moments every night and it looks like one big party, but I had several nights without any good finds.
You probably all know that whatever you do there is alway one eye open for animals, even during the day doing some family stuff.

Niklas, I don't know either, I put in a lot of effort for the glass frogs and some of them are really hard to get in front of the camera, nothing more frustrating then hearing them the whole night and not being able to get to them.

Tim, this is only around 25- 30% of what you can find there, maybe I go back one day for some specific searches...more salamanders, Atelopus species, Anotheca spinosa, Agalychnis spurelli adults, Agalychnis saltator(only heard it) Hypsiboas rufitelus.......and some other glass frogs and as many snakes as possible....I remember walking in a known area for the boss of the forest, checking the many holes everywhere, very exciting!!

Thanks Marti, Peter & Kristian

Waouh, thanks for the report ! Glass frogs are wonderful !

I will go to Costa Rica the next summer (In August), with my wife, hoping to find as much species as you ! I will certainly comme back to you with some questions :)

For Atelopus there is only one species left in Costa Rica, A.varius, and only in one locality ...
