Thailand in February

For your reports/images, made outside Europe and the "Mediterranean" countries. Not to be too narrow minded and limited to our European/Mediterranean herps.

No, i have been in สวนเบญจกิติ and in Benjasiri Park where i was listening to nice live music.

This was individual was found in สวนเบญจกิติ, is it melanistic Trachemys sp. or Heosemys grandis? I do not see dorsal strip on this picture...

I asked for help in a hotel reception because i couldn't found geckos next to artificial lights and it turned out that they apparently present in completely dark areas. Are all of them Hemidactylus platyurus?

I've been to around Chiang Mai and Pai during the dry season and found some herps whilst not herping too actively (no night time road-cruising).

what did you find?

It's been a while, but Up north I found mostly the usual Eutropis and Sphenomorphus sp. and probably the odd Draco. Nothing to write home about. Was surprised not to see any varanids. I remember at least some of the DOR snakes being Ptyas. No vipers, but I never find vipers.

Regarding the Hemidactylus. At a quick glance, they seem like platyurus The third one is a classic specimen with the tail. The first one is a bit off.

The turtle is an old Trachemys scripta (probably ssp. elegans). They loose their colours with age.

What is sexual dimorphism of Hemidactylus platyurus and Kaloula pulchra?

Is it a frog calling? When i approached with a torch the calling was being ceased. Once when i approached i found juveinle Calotes versicolor but probably it was not it what was making that sound, the lizard could be looking for frogs as food or simply it was coincidence that the lizard was sleeping next to frog which was calling.

Could be a microhylid call.

What hours are the best to look for herptiles? from 15 till dawn? Yesterday I was walking at night in wild places and found only Bipalium and Fejervarya limnocharis. I wanted to play sounds of calling microhylid from my smarphone so that the frog i am looking for would think that there is no threat because other frogs did not cease calling. But i do not know what species of microhylid it is :?

Record what you hear (before getting too close) and then play it back.

I tried to playing back it but background noises were too loud :? Tomorrow i will try to make better recording. I also spoted quite big cricket in a place where calling was coming from. But there were different types of calls.

What species is it? Found at night by a stream.
