Guatemala 2017

Postby Laura Bok » Sun Oct 08, 2017 6:34 pm

Hey everybody,

in August, Bobby, Wouter, Joachim, Manuel and I spent two weeks in beautiful Guatemala - the land of milk and honey for salamander lovers!
Guatemala's jungles were stunning, both in term of landscapes and biodiversity. Traveling through cloud forests and dense jungle, past volcanoes and Mayan temples, we could observe more than 100 species of reptiles and amphibians. Amongst them as iconic ones as Bolitoglossa dofleini as well as many other Bolitoglossid salamanders, Bradytriton silus, Corytophanus cristatus, Agalychnis callidryas, Bothriechis schlegeli or Crocodylus moreletii.

Bobby´s tripreport can be found here:

And some more of our pictures can be viewed on my Flickr:

Enjoy!

Congrats! This is one of the most impressive trip report I've seen! Even if I'm not one of those salamander-crazy people :p
I'm very jalous for the Atropoides mexicanus, such an awesome fat viper.

WOW!

That sounds and looks like quite a trip - congrats, thanks for posting.

Great finds, great pics, great report (as usual).

I'm curious... what's up with the id for the first Cerrophidion - godmani or tzotzilorum?

I spent a decent while reading your report, which was a grand adventure by itself! The manders sure make it - great colours and cool-shaped heads and feet. Bradytriton's face = sooo cute... The only thing missing in these outstanding(!!!) pictures is me.

Very cool and crisp flickr album Lauren!! Love the 'new' flashed photos, def need to put some effort in that as well..

The kids that tried to kill the whip snake knew that it is a basterd species, I lost almost half a liter of blood because a big one ripped me open with one bite.

Yes please, give me a tissue.

Also very cool to read Bob's report, must have been a fucking great trip!

Thanks a lot guys! We sure had one hell of an adventure and never dared to dream to come back with such a huge list!

@Kristian, the judges are not out yet on that one. Although it displayed some characteristics for C. tzotzilorum it doesn't fit well at all with the distribution of that species.

It is indeed a great report with great pictures and an even better trip.
It reminds me (just a little bit) of my trips to Costa Rica in the days when I had no idea what I was seeing ;)
The salamanders are great but the snakes are awesome.
I'm sure you guys had great fun during the trip.
I just wonder; how long does it take to organise all the pictures you take?
I take weeks with a fraction of the species you see.
