Hi all,

A belated report of a trip a couple of friends and I went on back in May 2018. We flew London to Bangkok, got the hire car and drove straight to Kaeng Krachan NP. We spent 4 days here before moving up north to the area around Sa Kaeo and Khao Yai NP for a further 3 nights. All in all a very successful trip with our main target species seen in the first few days :D

Here are some photos of some of the species we encountered, beginning with KK:

t0001 (2).jpg
Varanus nebulosus

t0003.jpg
Malayopython reticulatus - 4m specimen with signs of a hard life

t0006.jpg
Smaller, prettier specimen from the same area. We found many of these snakes in vegetation near water

t0008(1).jpg
Cyrtodactylus brevipalmatus - an ironic common name for this (extremely) short-handed forest gecko

t0009.jpg
Kaloula pulchra

t0011.jpg
Ahaetulla prasina

t0014.jpg
Pyrops candelaria

t0021.jpg
Rhabdophis subminiatus

t0024 (2).jpg
Ptyas korros

t0025.jpg
Heterometrus spinifer

t0026.jpg
Ophiophagus hannah

t0027(1).jpg
Same again

t0031 (2).jpg
One more

t0034.jpg
Malayopython reticulatus road-cruised. Many of the pythons we found in this area had patches of scale damage. Possible result of the dry season?

t0035 (2).jpg
Lovely iridesence from the scales of this species

t0038 (2).jpg
Boiga cyanea - a beautiful species which I had wanted to see for quite some time

Sa Kaeo:

t0039 (2).jpg
Hypsiscopus plumbea found beside a small pond

t0040 (2).jpg
Enhydris enhydris, road-cruised just out of town

t0042 (2).jpg
Ahaetulla nasuta from the edge of agricultural land

t0046(1).jpg
Enhydris enhydris. We watched this specimen have around 10 unsuccessful strikes at the small fish in this pond

t0048 (2).jpg
Boiga multomaculata from the outskirts of town

t0049 (2).jpg
A full-body shot of the same snake

As usual, more photos and discussions can be seen on my Facebook and IG (dkane_nature).

Brilliant! A lot to envy on this trip as well. These photos don't do justice to the size of The King though ;)

I think he was around the 3 metre mark, but we were so unprepared when we encountered him so it's hard to be sure (only slightly smaller than the king at LZ, for reference).

We found him on the final drive we did on this particular road and we actually drove past 'the spot' before deciding to turn around and have one last look around. None of us brought handling equipment and I almost didn't bring my camera because it had just started to rain. Very glad I did - only a couple of minutes looking and one of us saw this coil in the grass beside a pond... The rest is a blur!

Some nice shots from my favourite part of the world. Congrats on the Cobra. Enjoyed all your photos but particularly your unusual perspective of K.pulchra.

Thanks for posting. Ray
