Bobby, what about other external herp species among Canary Islands? So far I have heared about H. meridionalis, P. perezi, A. carolinensis and Lampropeltis getula californiae. I'm asking because soon I will be on Gran Canaria or on Tenerife with parents.
Greets.

Michal, I just read that EU finances the removal of Lampropeltis getula californiae by 500'000 € on Gran Canaria. More than 700 snakes have already been caught and removed within the past three years (more than 500 in 2011). You could try the localities "Barranco San Roque" (near Telde) and "La Solana". I think they lay out artificial shelters to get the snakes. Considering the number of caught snakes your chances could be high.
