Winter trip to the Lycian Coast

Postby Laura Bok » Wed Feb 08, 2012 10:32 pm

Merhaba everybody,

from 27th of January to 3rd of February my boyfriend and me spent a week of holidays in Turkey. We had already been to Antalya last year (a short report can be found here: http://www.euroherp.com/forum/subject/596/) - back then, I was quite impressed. Now, I have definitely fallen in love with Lycia. Particularly the winter season in Turkey offers everything that makes a perfect holiday in my opinion - amazing landscapes from coastline to mountain tops, inviting villages, nice food and of course lots of salamanders!

The weather did it´s best to please us - we had sun when we needed it, rain at night and cloudy skies while searching and photographing salamanders. And we had some adventures too - but see for yourself (I included some comments below the pictures which can easily be overlooked):

Hope you enjoy,
regards,
Laura

Great salamanders! Impressive to see Caretta in January too, I was under the impression they spent the colder months around the southern edge of the Mediterranean..

Really nice! I would guess the scenery is more colourful portrayable than under harsher summer light. Those luschani luschani are really nice. That first turtle picture has true aesthetic appeal.

Thanks - I really like the Lycian salamanders too, actually I think they are my favorite so far. Still, I can´t decide which species I like best. Luschani? Helverseni? Antalyana? I guess it´s always the one I am currently looking at ;)

Impressive to see Caretta in January too, I was under the impression they spent the colder months around the southern edge of the Mediterranean..

Yes, that´s one part of what made the moment so special actually, the fact that it was so unexpected. Unexpected for ME at least - the guy we rented the pedal boat from told us that there are 6 to 7 around usually and that he sees them frequently even in winter time. Mmmh, nice to know...

No, I wanted to make sure that I will be able to show you some of my photos afterwards ;) And the water didn´t look to inviting as to risk a dive...

Regards,
Laura

Oh, what a mess - and how did you free yourself?? It doesn´t look as if a good driving technique or extraordinary muscle power would have sufficed, did it? But still, appears it didn´t affect your mood ;)

That was not a problem, I visited a special training program before.
