Really great photos! Well done guys, looks like you had a great trip. Does anyone know the status of Eumeces schneideri on Cyprus?

It exists, but is extremely rare - only some single findings. I think Bayram Göcmen also reported a finding in Northern Cyprus:

Nice trip report and awesomw Macrovipera.
Two question: was this snake moire agressive or a little quiet ?
And the dates of your trip ?
Where, like it seem on your pictures, the dam full of water.
I was 2 times in Cyprus 10 years ago, they were half empty in april...

Hello Pierre,

we visited the island in the end of April. Before we arrived on the island there were still bad weather (wet ground under rocks and trash). We had 10 days of full sun shine and hot temperatures.

If you dont catch the lebetinas they are really calm ...they do nothing except laying in the grass and after 5 minutes they make a jump in the next bush. If you catch them they mutate to real beasts...but who would like that...caught from some freakin aliens like us :)

So I would say the snakes are not agressive at all.

Really great pics and report!
Besides, interesting information about the viper-minefields/basking habits.
Which lens did you use for the in-situ shots?
