HERPETOFAUNA OF BAŞKOMUTAN NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK

In this study, it was aimed to determine the herpetofauna (amphibians and reptiles
fauna) of Kocatepe Section of Başkomutan Historical National Park which is placed
within Afyonkarahisar province border in the inner-western part of Aegean Region. For
this, the specimens were collected from the study area between March and July of 2009
year. The collected specimens were evaluated by their morphologic characteristics such
as pholidosis, color-pattern, body measurements and their ratios, and their
characteristics were compared with the data previously reported. The photographs of the
specimens representing each species were taken. Additionally, some bio-ecological
observations belonged to the collected specimens were also described.
According to the results obtained from the study, it was diagnosed totally 19 species, 5
amphibians and 14 reptilians, belonged to herpetofauna in the study area. The
amphibians were Triturus karelinii, Pseudepidalea variabilis, Hyla orientalis, Pelophylax
bedriagae, P. caralitanus, Rana macrocnemis; and the reptilians were Emys orbicularis, Testudo
graeca, Cyrtopodion kotschyi, Laudakia stellio, Anatololacerta danfordi, Parvilacerta
parva, Lacerta trilineata, Ophisops elegans, Trachlepis vittata, Typhlops vermicularis,
Dolichophis caspius, D. jugularis, Platyceps najadum, Natrix natrix, Natrix tesellata.
