Sightings of Echis coloratus eating a Jird

Postby Guy Haimovitch » Sat May 14, 2016 1:24 pm

While road cursing in the Jordan valley in Israel I've noticed a Tristram's Jird (a common species of rodent) acting weird in the middle of the road. I've started watching it from the car's window as it appeared to lose consciousness. As my eyes started to un-focus on it I noticed a menacing character behind it, on the edge of the road, “a Saw-scaled viper” I shouted.

It appears the Jird was bitten by the viper and dropped dead in the middle of the road. I took the Jird by its tail and left it next to the viper to avoid the viper coming to get it and getting run over by a passing car.

As the viper started eating I took a few photos and a video.
