Thanks a lot everyone!

Yes, but as always, you don't want to risk letting the animal escape for some videos :D I do have a video from the moment we realeased him. Which reminds me, I have some more videos which I almost forgot to include in this report and the next one for the Seychelles :o Working on it!

Gabriel Martínez wrote:Fantastic photos. Desert monitors are amazing indeed. It´s crazy the swimming pool so close to the sand. Absolutely great although I can´t imagine how much time will expend the pakistan workers to mantain it so clean

You should have seen the pool after a sandstorm! It is of course a bit strange to set up such a resort in the middle of a conservation reserve. But it does pay the bill and the wildlife (locally) profits.

Thanks for posting!

Yes I was also very surprised! I was taking pictures and I thought any minute he will run off. But in the end I was less than 2m away. Later I read they tend to trust in their camouflage when they are far from their burrow.

Congrats to both of you and my best wishes for the future.

Always a pleasure to read you reports. There are some stunning pictures! Do I see it right that you are still using your indestructible, legendary Sanyo camera?

Thanks Thomas! And yes, the Sanyo was still in use for this part of the trip, although I also used Laura's camera every now and then. Half way through the Seychelles' leg of the trip it died sadly, the tropical moisture (and being submerged in the Indian Ocean for a short while) was too much for the little thing. So then we had to share a camera for the last 1,5 week. A legend has died

At the moment I am using a Canon EOS 650d. The in situ shots of the Varanus were taken with a telephoto lens (Canon EF 70-200mm), the Varanus-in-habitat-photos with a wide-angle lens (Canon EF-S 10-22mm).
