Stellagama stellio

This diurnal lizard is one of the most abundant species in Israel. I found them almost everywhere taking sun bathes on rocks or ruins of ancient cities. Here are some photos from several places

On Cyprus they were common too. But those which I saw were much brighter, probably because I saw them in summer while the photos of agamas you took were taken in winter/spring i suppose. They change their colour to darker to absorb more light which is needed as they are exothermic animals.

Nice pictures of two subspecies ;)

Michal,
first, you should look for the distribution and you will see, the Cyprus stellio is its own ssp., cypriaca, while inIsrael there are at least two: Arbel NP (N Israel): stellio and Tel Arad NP ( S Israel): brachydactyla

Welcome & thanks for the pics!

I am going to be my annoying self, though, by stating that I am still in camp Laudakia as long as genus splits are based on inconclusive morphological data alone.

Unfortunatelly, no snakes were found...it was too cold for them
