My friends went to Syria and the took a picture of a snake. It's the best picture they had. When I look at the head it seems like a Lytorhynchus. I don't find a herp-list of Syria but I found one of Jordania. In Jordania there two species. L. diadema en L. kennedyi. I can't find a picture of L. kennedyi.

But when I google L. maynardi is an animal who looks very simular to this picture, only problem L. maynardi lives around Afganistan.

I think it's an Lythorhynchus, but which one?

First I thought it was a Coluber elegantissimus.

Yes, it is a Lytorhynchus diadema, you may easily see the "shovelnose", the large Rostrale (see picture out of: Disi, Modry, Necas & Rifai, Amphibians and Reptiles of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

"kennedy" is only a color morph and a synonym of L. diadema.

Hello Peter,
I've been in Syria this year, and Lytorhynchus diadema was a dream of me, but no finding. Where did your friends find this beautiful snake?
Thanks, Nikola
