One question is "habemus - or not" (hopefully very soon), but a more important one is "habet - or not"...
We'll see in due time whether this paper really "duos habet et bene pendentes" (hopefully very soon).

Habeo sed non habemus. :P

Sorry, guys, I'm not at liberty to share the proofs I got. As it is mentioned online already, I can give you the paper's title, though.

GHIELMI S., MENEGON M., MARSDEN S.J.,LADDAGA L.& URSENBACHER S. (in press) A new vertebrate for Europe: the discovery of a range-restricted relict viper in the western Italian Alps. J Zool Syst Evol Res.

Google this every day and you'll end up finding it sooner or later. ;)

I understand your reasons, and respect them, but for all of us who "can't wait", would you
just reveal to us your personal opinion whether THE PAPER as such (an sich) habet, or not.

Maybe, just maybe, the answer is already in this thread.

My personal opinion, having read the paper and having seen the live animals, I think it's valid.
Once published the paper, everything will be very clear.

I would have a few questions (only if you can give me the answers) :

So this viper is of hybrid origin between Vipera berus and Vipera ursinii ?
It would be an equivalent of Vipera magnifica and Vipera orlovi in the alps ?
If so, what is the level of introgression of vipera ursinii ?

Is there a binomial name available for this new viper?
How many populations exist? and is the paper giving their exact localities?

1-2) No. Please read what I wrote above (which is what I, possibly imperfectly, deduced from what was presented as the SEH meeting).
3) Thus, zero.
4) Search this thread and you shall find. ((Or did you mean whether the name was already available? If so, no.))
5) Probably not a sensitive question, but I'd rather not answer it.
6) No. You would have to ask Martti what he meant earlier, if that's what initiated your question.
