What do you take with you when you go herping?

As to me:
-photo cameras
-additional lens
-food and beaverage
-mosquito repellent
-smartphone with GPS
-waders
-landing net
-aquarium net
-wellingtons
-money
-measure
-headlamp
-pepper spray
-1.5L portable plastic terrarium
-powerful torch
-raisins/banana to lure lizards
-welding gloves for dealing with venomous reptiles and to lift heavy stuff (eg. stones)
-narrow, small glass aquarium to take pics (20cm x 3cm x 15cm is ok? what dimensions are optimal?)
-magnifier
-pen with a notebook
-backpack

Of course i do not take all the mentioned stuff at once, sometimes i take only photo camera.

How many lumens do your torches have? I lost my headtorch on Sardinia so I have to buy new one and I'm choosing the proper one.

I have many.
While driving I use this one: https://youtu.be/dgxUlC4oQFs

3500 lumens and you see the road almost the same way as in daylight.

Lumens are not everything, you may want to read up on that. For herping purposes, you generally don't need the strongest of the strong. It even brings frustration because you'll spot animals out of reach, like tree vipers, that you can never grab.

Battery life and flexibility in use of different power sources are important to me. Another thing is adjustability of light strength. I am still fond of my Led Lenser h14r.2.

And oh yes, good gear is not cheap. I used to buy new lofi stuff over and over again but not anymore.

Like Jeroen said, lumen istn't everything. I have been using a Fenix LD22 for 3 years now and for herping purposes I wouldn't upgrade to a higher brightness. It's very compact, can take a (hard) hit to the ground, it's water proof and it lasts long and has a low price.

Cheers,
Pablo

you may want to read up on that

where? what are the other criteria that i should take into consideration? battery longevity, waterproofness, shookproofness, anything else?
