Lissotriton vulgaris & Lissotriton helveticus

These species are pretty much syntopic. Taking into account their similar mating pattern a question arises- What prevents these species from hybridization? Do they preffer dissimilar breeding water bodies?
Both species replace each other mutually in the sympatric zone on a macro-scale. However, no effects of competition have been found on a micro-scale; in habitat, food or time resources.

There are several studies on on the hyridization of those two newts. Though it does occur it is pretty rare. Could also be that a hybrid is pretty hard to identify.
