Melanism in Vipera sp.

As we know, melanism in some Vipera species is rather common (at least locally), but is this true for all species? For instance, I cant not find (with quick google search) any pictures or good information on melanistic V.ammodytes.

What other species does or do not have this trait in certain specimens/locations ?

Pictures is always nice.

Here is some pics from 2 norwegian melanisitic Vipera berus berus

Black ammos actually exist as you can see.

In Vipera latastei there are just 2 melanistic individuals recorded so it´s very rare at difference to aspis, berus or seoanei

I missed this - that, is I actually saw the thread but was directed to page two, with the picture of the V.aspis and I thought this was the animal in question. So, we have established that they exist, but most definatly are a holy grail!

How about other species, like i.e high altitude species like ursinii/greaca ?

To the best of my knowledge, nothing of the sort. Dark - yes (very rarely), but totally black - no.

We have seen more than 200, but no melanistic specimen until now, except that chocolate female (normal coloured for comparison).
