Tarentola annularis & hoggarensis in Morocco

Postby Daniel Kane » Tue Oct 31, 2017 4:56 pm

Hi all,

I have been doing some literature searches recently and there seem to be very few records of the geckos Tarentola annularis and Tarentola hoggarensis from Morocco. Given the potential range of these species in Morocco I completely understand this however I was hoping that someone is able to shed some light on the situation. If you have any additional information please do share.

From what I read so far there is a record from Herrmann & Herrmann (2003) mentioning a single T. hoggarensis found in October 2000 around 30 Km south of Assa. This apparently represented the third record of this species in Morocco at the time. Aside from that record this species is mentioned on several lists of reptiles recorded from Morocco but with very few actual sightings.

It is a similar situation for T. annularis: mentioned on checklists but verified in-country records appear to be largely lacking.

Thanks a lot for that paper, Mario. Unless I am reading this incorrectly I cannot see the record of annularis from Morocco - just the 4 from Mauritania. However it certainly sounds like it would have been quite the 96-day trip!
