This is an albinism http://www.biol.uni.wroc.pl/herp/herp_p ... e/Ss24.htm But indeed this salamandra looks stunning. I don't know when, but sooner or later I will visit Morocco.

Very cool, PY, although I seen red-marked algira pics before.

Michal, by definition, that's not an albino, since the yellow markings are still visible.

I don't agree Jeroen, some years ago (15) I found a completey cream colored Salamandra salamandra terrestris as larvae in a stream near Alès, and she become real albinos with yellow spots, but maybe the name is not exact (albinos) ?
here is some picture:

No, not a pigment aberration, just high red phenotype.
Red is not white :geek:

I think the topic covers similar basics as the blue pelophylax one.
I assume really deep black salamander skin: Just melanophores; yellow pigmentation: xanthophores with iridophores underneath to make it a nice and bright yellow. Red would mean lots of erythrophores in the epidermal layer - where the xanthophores also are - like the sally in the first pic posted.
So the sallies with the melanophores missing, that still have the yellow pigment would all be amelanistic, and I would agree with Michael that the soft pinkish coloration of amelanistic animals is probably muscle tissue below the dermal/epidermal layers that appears a bit milky due to light still having to go through the upper skin layers.
