I have checked now the diagosis of Tarentola s. str. (maur., deserti, boehmei) and Tarentola (Makariogecko) (boettgeri, delalandii, gomorensis, etc.).
Following Bischoff (1998): Die Reptilien der Kanarischen Inseln, der Selvagens-Inseln und des Madeira-Archipels.- Handbuch der Reptilien und Amphibien Europas, Vol. 6.,
the diffrence between these two groups is:
Tarentola s. str.: Dorsal tubercels surrounded by a collar of small scales.
Makariogecko: no collar around tubercels.
But look at this mauritanica from Coastal Tuscany: no collar realy visible.
