Morocco April 2015

Postby GertJan Verspui » Thu Aug 27, 2015 7:38 pm

Hello there, finally I had some time to sort out a few photographs and write a some words about our trip to Morocco this spring, I was there with Frank Deschandol and Sjoerd v Bemmel.

Herping Morocco is not always easy, but Gabri already warned me about that, non the less we still found some great stuff and had a very good time.

Peter, the Uromastyx were sometimes very bright yellow orange red, or a combination of those, but they were very shy and went into deep holes most of the time, the ones we were able to grab were hiding under stones.

Jürgen, Thanks buddy, actually it was very hard work and in Morocco you need lots of luck. (did you call me friend?? ;) )

Thanks Frédéric, they are very cool snakes and good posers.

Even tough this whole "lets go herping outside Bobbys holidays so he can't join" thing has got to stop, great trip with so many iconic species from that region. Great job buddy!

Morocco sometimes desesperate. Good weather, perfect habitat, good moment of the year, but snakes don´t appear! But you found many species. I am specially stranged about the way you found so many Vipera. You made it easy and found many individuals! Amazing!! I think that you made a very good trip, specially if we think that it´s your first trip to Morocco. Hope that you return there someday for Naja, Eryx or Telescopus!

Andre, Thanks, you should, it is a great country to visit, I want to go again in different times of the year.

Bobby, thanks & sorry amigo, we must make a real plan in the future (Non eu)

Gabri, thank you, yes I was surprised too about the many vipers, I don't know when but I will go again, maybe the north in winter for amphibians.

Indeed a great report and a great trip.
I was there last year in the summer and it was indeed not easy to find ( any ) snake.
The winter in the North must be worth the visit indeed.
