Today I was outside to observe the new generation of H.viridiflavus. I could find 2 of them in the morning (8h-9h), one was basking close to the vegetation and the other one was discovered under a small rock. In the afternoon, I missed a really large adult H.viridiflavus (>> 1.5m long) which disappeared in the bushes in a shot. Due to the high temperatures (around 28°C), I was not able to photograph asp vipers but I found a piece of shed from a V.aspis, so a new spot to investigate when the temperatures will get cooler. Below are the pictures of the day:

well If you dont like Hierophis I can find some others one for you

I'm not completely sure to understand what you meant PY but I do like Hierophis The only thing is that I love them even more when they are far from a V.aspis population The pictures shown above were taken in a place where you can find simultaneously H.viridiflavus and V.aspis and when Hierophis are very active, as it is now, it's quite hard to observe vipers during the day since they are hidding from those nasty whip snakes

A new update for October, which is always one of the best (if not the best) month of the year here in Central France. The temperatures are still OK (T>20°C in the afternoon) and it is much easier to spot snakes (in particular V.aspis) than in Summer due to the declining vegetation. alors là tu fais fort, plus que fort... je ne sors pas ces temps, d'autres soucis.. ton mâle aspis a l'air complètement psychotique en délire (cf le regard) !!! Merci et bravo, belle brochette d'in situ !!
les chenilles du sphinx de l'euphorbe, j'en ai trouvé en Croatie en septembre pour la première fois... magnifique !!

Thanks PY and Stéphane. I will try to make another herping session, maybe the last one of 2012, this week since the temperatures should decrease starting Thursday. But Hierophis are still out so maybe we have more weeks left for vipers, who knows.
