End of a season

Postby Alexandre Roux » Tue Sep 17, 2013 11:04 am

Hi people of Europe !

I'm pretty sad because the sun is going down so fast... And temperatures follows it !
After three days of rain, I'm not really optimistic...

Anyway, here are some picture I did in the last days of the year.
I've met Jean-Pierre Baron who works on V.ursinii ans then took some days next to the Manche (sea).
Now I'm back in Lyon.

Here's a picture took with Jean-Pierre Baron.

Vipera ursinii ursinii

A little break next to Lyon before going in the north of France, a good occasion to see owls.

These were next to the city of Berck.

It isn't because the adders will not come out. Maybe I will search adders near Lüneburg when October come. ;)

You took some really nice pictures. I really liked your phoque gris ( H. grypus ) I've been a few times on the coast between Boulogne-sur-mer and Calais, but so far I only took pictures of noses ;)

I agree with you, it is the end of the season in central Europe. But in the south of Europe a new amphibian season will star soon.
That's the place to be.

Thanks everybody !
The season is ending but I'll have a very nice week coming !!!

@ Miguel, if you want to see seals, you must go to Berck (Baie d'Authie) !

Yesterday, not less than 17 Hierophis next to my town !
I just took pictures of 2 of them.
How incredible was to see I've found 4 Hierophis, 2 L.bilienata, 1 P.muralis and... a nest of Apodemus sylvaticus with 3 babies and the female, under the same wooden plank !!! Sorry I didn't took pictures because when I've raised the plank, everybody under were panic !!!

Very nice small end of season post, thanks for sharing! I especially like the Hierophis pictures, what a beautiful european snake! 4 under the same plank, that was party time out there

Like you, I'm already depressed when I look outside the window but last Saturday, I've been very pleased to find about 10 asp vipers in my spot. I also have a week off next week and I still hope that I'll be able to see some vipers before the winter comes... ;)

Many snakes around here but not a lot of pictures. I've seen some V.aspis and N.natrix but I've already took the time to make pictures of them in the past.
So I'm really happy to take some time to make pictures of Hierophis !
And it goes again and again !!!

Very nice "Tour de France", the second picture of berus is great and viriflavus are really splendid colubrids. Last year at the same period of time, close to Lyon, I witnessed many D.O.R Hierophis (more than average). As I personally observed one specimen resting in the middle of a countryside road (!) during one afternoon of October (if I remember well), maybe that some of those snakes tend to bask directly close to the roads around September. Did you already observe something similar?
