Same area.
Joined by a couple of extra snakes today, and a male Slow Worm (not pictured).

Good stuff Ray,

There was a photo of a couple of berus out up here on Feb 2nd - but since then the decent weather hasn't been in time with my days off. This coming week is looking better temperature-wise though!

Hi Neil,
February 2nd is an interesting record - that's a good fortnight before these started showing (as far as I'm aware.) Must breed those Northern Adders tough! The weather has certainly been odd at the start of this year.

Today it was a sunny 12 degrees here and it's supposed to be warmer on Monday.
People were paddling in the sea at Bournemouth.

Not the only ones enjoying the sun...

First sighting Sand Lizard.

Nice shot - must have had a bit of sun today.

How do the dates compare to previous years for yours?

Nice shots guys. In London things are stirring up as well, and I'm pretty sure today there are going to be adders at my local spot, it's 17 C and sunny and I have to be at work :(

Not as exciting for you snake guys but I've been keeping an eye on the local newts (both at day and night) and I still haven't seen anything in the water. They are definitely moving though because I found a few under some rotten logs including this rather unusually (for me and this area) coloured one. She(I think) was rather pink-orange overall and the ventral parts which are usually white/cream to grey were very pink. These are phone photos and they don't do her justice but she was with three others(regularly coloured) under the same log and she definitely stuck out.

Good question - the previous couple of years I haven't had anything until March, but that's mainly down to not being able to get out on the right days. Plus I spent much of Feb/March last year in Cornwall. These were my first Feb snakes, but I'll ask around and see how some others have got on in previous years.

nb - 3rd Jan 2015 (I think) had a bit of warmth (5-6deg) so I had a look - no adders but one zoot.

That's better than we get during summer up here!

Interesting to see what happens now with a 10 degree drop in temps predicted for the next few days.

Newts and frogs in the ponds already here and clumps of spawn appearing. Haven't found anything to match Ilian's amphibian in colouring though.

Nice pictures from all of you !

Here around Lyon, we had some snakes observations from last week (Aesculapian snake and Asp viper) + Western green lizards and the Common wall lizard of course.

So last sunday, I left the Lynx quest I'm in for 2 years now and went out a few hours for reptiles. I managed to see the two lizard species but had some troubles finding a snake. What finally happened as always, with an awesome Asp viper sighting !
