Good day at a local Natrix site.

Had a good day at a local Natrix site the other day. :D
Over three hours I saw 30+ so many I actually lost count, some I would have seen twice though!
I caught two large females to measure and one male, the first female was 1meter the other 1.2 probably the largest female I have seen to date and the male
2 foot 6.
I never saw any mating or males and females together so I assume that was over.

I also visited some wetlands 10mins walk from the canal.
In this area is a large lake, marsh and a couple of small ponds.
I had heard reports of a lone large terrapin that’s been resident in one of the ponds for several years and I was interested to see what species it was, anyway my luck was in. sorry the picture isn’t very good the terrapin was some distance away.

Hi Tony

Some great photos. I was especially interested in this post as I live in Bridlington. I know of several local sites for Natrix in East Yorkshire but I'm not familiar with the location in your photographs. Grass Snakes must be more common and widespread in the county than I thought.
