Grass snakes

Postby Kevin Byrnes » Thu Mar 24, 2011 7:32 pm

I have been out in the field over the last couple of days and have seen a few mating balls of Grass snakes, plenty of Adders out sunning themselves but the Grass snakes are rather noisy in the bracken.
Here is a lovely sight that I saw this morning, a melanistic Adder basking with 2 Grass snakes and a normal Adder.

Here is some footage of a mating ball from yesterday.

Wow - great photo of the 4 snakes! Good footage too, looks like was an intimate encounter. I'm hoping for some adders this weekend.

:) Very nice photos, Kevin! I found three Grass snakes (two of them in one place) here in suburban London today but no mating balls to be seen(or heard) anywhere! I wonder why this could be?

Really nice!!
Love those colors on the grass snakes...
All grass snakes near me are 100% black despite the 2 very yellow spots on the neck.
Sincerely
