Great pictures and funny trip report Jürgen and Paul. The trip postings are almost going too fast for me, fantastic reports of N-Spain, Florida and now Israel.

Guess you could check the details rather easily, but overall built of second seems like Trithemis to me.
3rd Brachythemis for sure, although looks more like the western leucosticta (occurring in Israel anyway?) (which actually has been split and bears another name now in the Mediterranean vs. (I believe) further S in Africa).

The truth is:
My driving style is normal
I don`t smoke that many cigarettes
I smile more than once in a week

But it`s also right, I don`t need much too eat und time too sleep during a week of herping
Coffee, Water and a cigarette from time too time is enough.

Dear Paulgen (or Jürgaul, as you wish),

Thank you for posting this first part, I'm speechless in front of those Daboia palaestinae  :!: . For a first part it's already a really interesting collection of herps. Jürgen, I particularly like your picture of Testudo, it's a very relaxing one.

Dug up the name, if anyone would care => Brachythemis impartita for N Africa and Mediterranean. Does occur in Israel, as well as B. fuscopalliata.

An excellent report indeed....and now I'm on a promise from Paul to go next year, I can't wait already!

The mammals, birds, Dragonflies - and in fact, Peter, if you know where to go - Orchids! - are also stunning in Israel.

Paul's bird is a White-throated kingfisher, Jurgen's is a female Little Bittern.

My dragonfly book is elsewhere at present, but I will be able to confirm all those later.

Our Montenegro trip, from 10th-16th June, is shaping up nicely - we will be dipping into Albania for a day with the hope of finding some new sites for the mountain species, as well as hoping for all the "biggies" we missed last year. If we don't, it will be my fault this time....will post a report on here when we return. Be warned, it will have pics of birds, dragonflies, butterflies and other stuff!

At the moment, I'm fine with that odonata stuff - to me this seems at least as subversive as the orchids ;)
