This time around, October.

Last year I was there in May, herping was better - 5 days, 40 species (13 snake species). One night in the dunes, 8 C. cerastes, 4 C. vipera, 2 Lytorhynchus diadema.

Have fun :)

Very nice shots of Cerastes!

Platyceps sp. "gender confusion":

Platyceps is masculine without doubts!
"tessellata" and "subnigra" have to be turned to masculine, when using them without var(ietas), last one is feminine. And attributes, like tessellata and subnigra have to use the gender, to whom they are connected. So Platyceps rhodorhachis var(ietas) tessellata, but Pl. tessellatus and Pl. rhodorhacis var. subnigra, but Pl. subniger.

See also discussion here on the gender of Eirenis:

For a "true" split, i think we have to wait until biochemical data are available. Just color variation and a (clinal) variation in subcaudals seems to be (imho) not enough to split.

Jürgen, sorry no Daboia. As I said, it was a family vacation so I didn't have time to waste looking for trash snakes ;)
