lizard in the High Atlas

Postby miguel santos » Thu Aug 28, 2014 10:19 am

Hi there,
Here I have 2 pics ( not the best, but the only ones I could take ) from Oukaimeden at 2600 m a.m.s.l.
The question is: are this scelaris perspicillata?
I understand that there is a great variation in size and pattern in different populations in North Africa. These 2 animals were the ony ones I saw that looked different from the more common P. vaucheri .
unfortunately I was there at the warmest time of the day and all lizards were hard to photograph.

Thanks in advance,

Miguel

Dear Miguel!

I think they are Teira (or Scelarcis) perspicillata - perspicillata morphe.

Those are two very quick replies. Tanks a lot for your help.
I could not find a lot of other pics to compare.
They do look different from balearic lizards from Spain, the dorsal fainth stripe was confusing mee..
