First fieldherping this year !

Postby Daniel Claesson » Thu Apr 08, 2010 11:42 am

March 27 i visited a know V.berus hotspot that i frequently visit throughout the year. It didn't disappoint me this time either.

I found 4 males all where black. I spoted a Z.vivipara but it was to fast to get a picture of it.

Thanks Daniel for posting!
I love these black berus. Unfortunately these are not so common here, where I live. We have about 95% of the "common" ones.

Not a lake but the Baltic Sea "Östersjön".

I love them to. I think the male population on this spot consist of about 90% black individuals. Last year i recorded only one "regular" male, but several "regular" gray and brown females.

Nice snakes Daniel! I am yet to see a black berus, but I have heard of a place in the Lakes about 2 hours away where about half of all adders and grass snakes are melanistic.
